Lack of fights will be something of the past for reigning South African female bantamweight champion Sharadene Fortuin as her fight drought will finally come to an end on women’s month.

Her trainer and manager Lonwabo Witbooi has revealed that Fortuin has signed a contract for a fight against Zimbabwean boxer Kudakwashe Chiwandire in an African Boxing Union (ABU) SADC bantamweight title contest at the Country Club Harare, Zimbabwe, on Saturday, 23 August.

Fortuin from Seymour in the Raymond Mhlaba Municipality, Eastern Cape, will dust the cobwebs after spending just over 20 months without tasting action. She will be fighting for the first time since her victory over another Zimbabwean boxer Patience Mastara in Polokwane in September 2023.

On the other hand, Chiwandire, a former interim World Boxing Council (WBC) female junior-featherweight titlist, lost her last fight to Russian Karina Tazabekova is Saint Petersburg, Russia, in December.
