Dr Luvuyo Bayeni is back as a member of the board of Boxing South Africa (BSA) following the resignation of Dr Vince Blennies in April.

Bayeni’s return to the BSA board was confirmed by the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie. Bayeni was in the board which McKenzie dissolved in August last year following court cases brought by the National Professional Boxing Promoters Association (NPBPA).

Blennies resigned after he was appointed to the National Film and Video Foundation.

Bayeni’s appointment is in line with Section 10 (4) of Boxing South Africa Act of 2001, which states that, “whenever the office of any member of Boxing SA become vacant before the expiration of the term for which he or she has been appointed, another member must be appointed to fill the vacancy until the expiration of the period for which the vacating member was appointed.”

Bayeni, who worked at Chippa United before, is a qualified medical doctor who combines his experience with an MBA degree focusing on governance, change and crises management as well as policy alignment with proven results in operations, efficiencies and public trust.

He currently serves as a chief director responsible for human resources at the Department of Health and is known for his commitment and innovation, resilience and community-focused health solutions.

Bayeni is also a part-time lecturer at University of Pretoria (UP) and a guest lecturer at University of the Witwatersrand (Wits).
