It looks like Lwando Mgabi left a lasting impression in KwaZulu-Natal boxing circles after he stopped Sechaba Zuma in the fifth round during their fight held at the Estcourt Town Hall last Saturday.
Duncan Village-born Mgabi went to the Zuma fight having lost his South African junior-bantamweight title after he failed to make the required weight at an offocial weigh-in a day before the clash.
Already, plans have been set in motion to make sure that Mgabi returns to KwaZulu-Natal for yet another clash against a boxer from that province. Mgabi will choose between fighting against Ntethelelo Magcaba or face another soon-to-be named boxer in July or August.
Ink Sport understands that award-winning promoter Nomvelo Magcaba-Shezi is planning a fight between Mgabi and her younger brother Ntethelelo. And this fight, which is going to be a vacant SA junior-bantamweight title contest, is earmarked to be held in August.
On the other hand, Hlula Dladla of Hlula Dladla Boxing Promotions (HDBP) is also trying to bring Mgabi back to KwaZulu-Natal.
“I have been told that there’s a fight against Magcaba, which ia being planned for the 30th of August. There’s also a deal that Dladla is putting together which I will get the full details on Friday,” Mgabi said.
Mgabi has a professional record of eight victories with three knockouts while Magcaba, a KZN and African Boxing Union (ABU) SADC junior-bantamweight champion, has won all his six fights with five of those wins coming from knockouts. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
I’m sure he will go there highly motivated and feeling like a champion after the Zuma stoppage win. Makuliweee!
