Age-defying Filipino boxer Nonito Donaire claimed the interim World Boxing Association (WBA) bantamweight title after a ninth round technical decision win over Andres Campos from Chile.
Fighting for the first time since losing to Alexandro Santiago in July 2023, Donaire was ahead in all three judges’ scorecards when fight referee Luis Pablon stopped the proceedings due to a cut on the Filipino’s eyebrow, which was caused by an accidental headbutting.
The 42-year-old Donaire, a four-weight division world champion, improved his record to 48 victories with 28 knockouts and eight losses. On the other hand, Campos from Santiago de Chile dropped to 17 wins with six stoppages, three defeats and a draw.
Meanwhile, Junior Narvaes registered a third round technical knockout win over Dennis Martinez in a junior-featherweight bout with Leandro Robutti stopping Jackson Murray in the first round in a flyweight contest.
