Charlton ‘Baby Pain’ Malajika fully understands that he has lived in his elder brother and current International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-bantamweight champion Ricardo Malajika’s shadow for some time.

And Charlton now gets an opportunity to carve his own path as he faces RV ‘Crusher’ Deniega from the Philippines in an IBO Youth bantamweight title contest at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday, 5 July.

Charlton has not fought since he inflicted some pain on Gcina Makhoba, stopping him in the third round at the same Kempton Park venue in March this year.

“I have been working very hard at training because I know that it’s the time for me to show boxing followers what I can do. I will be coming up against a tough opponent thus I had been pushing myself hard at the gym,” Charlton said.

After losing to Zimbabwean boxer Ndabezinhle Phiri on his professional debut, Charlton went on to win his next seven fights. And in the process, Charlton has stopped three of his seven victims.

On the other hand, Deniega, a southpaw from General Santos City, is the reigning Philippines bantamweight champion, who has 11 victories with seven knockouts and one defeat. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
