Kay B Promotions boss Mzi Booi has withdrawn from bidding for the vacant South African junior-welterweight title fight between his boxer Aphiwe Boyiya and Sibusiso Zingange.

This followed after Boxing South Africa (BSA) extended the invitation to all licensed promoters, including those who owe the fistic sport regulator despite last Friday’s closing date.

A circular sent out by BSA on Monday set a new closing date, which is Thursday, 26 June at noon. The eligibility criteria has been amended and the bid is now open to all promoters including those who owe BSA.  Earlier this month, BSA called for purse bids for the fight and promoters, who owe the regulator were excluded from bidding.

“Following the latest developments, I sat down with my team and we decided to withdraw from the purse bids because we feel that we have been compromised. Someone, somewhere now knows how much we put as a bid because the envelope has already been opened,” Booi said.

BSA’s circular said on Monday: “Promoters who owe Boxing South Africa are permitted to submit a bid provided that a formal arrangement with Boxing SA was in place prior to the publication of this re-advertisement and the promoter has consistently complied with the terms of the arrangement.”

Meanwhile, the vacant SA junior-welterweight title fight has been beset with problems, which started after Boyiya signed with Kay B Promotions for a clash against Sipho Mahlangu.
