After back and forth, Aphiwe Boyiya and Sibusiso Zingange will finally clash against each other in a vacant South African junior-welterweight title fight next month.
The latest developments followed after Kay B Promotions boss Mzi Booi and his TLB Boxing Promotions counterpart Joyce Kungwane came to an understanding regarding the fight.
“After the re-advertisement I had discussions with Joyce. She wanted to know reasons behind my withdrawal, which were the administrative errors,” Booi said referring to his withdrawal from the purse bids.
Booi added: “We also discussed the welfare of the boxers, particularly Boyiya, who has been preparing for the fight since February. We then agreed that TLB must organise the bout with our full support since she has a tournament on 26 July in Gauteng. We have since advised BSA about our agreement, that means the purse bids are falling away.”
The agreement between Booi and Kungwane came after Boxing South Africa (BSA) had extended an invitation to all licensed promoters, including those who owe the fistic sport regulator, to put bids to stage the fight with the closing date being noon on Thursday.
Ink Sport has it on good authority that the extension came after last week’s meeting between the BSA board and the National Professional Boxing Promoters Association (NPBPA). – Monwabisi Jimlongo
