Tshifhiwa ‘The Atomic Spider’ Munyai has gone back to Mexico for his third fight in the central American country since November last year.
After losing his last two fights on Mexican soil, Munyai is now going to trade blows with unbeaten Mexican opponent Miguel Esparza ‘Fantastico’ Cruz in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuaha, on Friday.
Makwarela-born Munyai, a former South African lightweight and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-featherweight champion, lost to Rosario Sanchez Terrones in January and was also beaten by Miguel Roman in November last year.
Talking about his opponent, the 40-year-old Munyai said: “He’s a young, good, up an coming boxer. He’s a come forward boxer as well just like all Mexicans.”
He added: “Here in Mexico, it’s mostly about your opponent giving you the heat. If you don’t have a heart, then you won’t make it. He’s bringing nothing new and he has basic mistakes, which I will capitalise on. I believe I will shock this young man.”
Munyai is a veteran of 36 wins with 21 knockouts, 10 losses and a draw. His 24-year-old opponent has won all his 18 fights with 13 of those wins coming from stoppages. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
