After guiding Sanele ‘V16’ Sogcwayi to his first two professional fights, Mdantsane-based trainer Ncedo Cecane will be missing from the boxer’s corner next month.

Sogcwayi clashes with Durbanite Eric Zwane at the Cabo Beach, V and A Waterfront, in Cape Town on Saturday, 9 August. And Cecane will miss Sogcwayi’s fight because he’s busy preparing Thinumzi Gqola ahead of his South African minimumweight title challenge against the reigning champion Mthokozisi Ngxaka in Johannesburg.

With the erstwhile SA flyweight champion absent from his corner, Sogcwayi is going to be ushered into battle by former World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) bantamweight titlist Simphiwe ‘V12’ Vetyeka.

“We want Ncedo to concentrate on preparing Gqola for his SA title challenge against Ngxaka thus we have engaged Vetyeka to man Sogcwayi’s corner in Cape Town,” Sogcwayi’s manager Thembelani ‘Shakes’ Hlombe said.

Mdantsane-born Sogcwayi’s fight against Zwane – a six rounds featherweight bout – is his third this year having made his professional debut at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, four months ago.

Sogcwayi has won all his two fights with one of those victories coming from a stoppage while Zwane lost on debut, but made amends when he won his next two fights by knockout. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
