After he stopped his best friend and Makhanda homeboy Siphesihle Mpolweni during a fight held in East London on Sunday evening, unbeaten boxer Bongani Fule now wants the South African featherweight title to return to the Eastern Cape.
And in a show of intent, Fule has challenged reigning SA featherweight champion Lindelani Sibisi, who dethroned Zolisa Batyi from Nxarhuni in the Eastern Cape via a 10th round stoppage at the Orient Theatre in East London more than two months ago.
Fule, who is rated number two in the South African featherweight division, put up a polished performance as he dropped Mpolweni three times and then stopped him in the fourth round at the Guild Theatre.
“Fule has signed a promotional contract with Kay B Promotions. And he has already challenged for the South African featherweight title,” Kay B Promotions boss Mzi Booi revealed.
And Fule’s manager Andile Mshumpela added: “We are going for Sibisi now as we have challenged him. The SA featherweight belongs to the Eastern Cape.”
Fule, a former Eastern Cape junior-lightweight champion, has an impressive record of seven wins with four stoppages. He won his last three fights with stoppages. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
