After drawing 1-1 with Chippa United in their opening Betway Premiership match of the season last Saturday, Mamelodi Sundowns recorded their first win when they beat AmaZulu 2-0 at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Tuesday evening.
Following a goalless first half, the Brazilians found the back of the net through Iqraam Rayners’ volley nine minutes into the second stanza. Arthur Sales played the ball to Tashreeq Matthews, who was the supplier to Rayners to give the Tshwane giants the lead.
And a last minute goal from Matthews gave the Brazilians the much-needed victory. Sundowns now have four points from two opening matches.
Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates lost their second successive match as Marumo Gallants came from behind to beat them 2-1 at the Dr Molemela Stadium in Mangaung.
The Buccaneers were the first to register on the score sheet with Patrick Maswanganyi’s goal after he was fed by Deon Hotto in the 16th minute.
Gallants equalised through Daniel Msendami’s goal on the stroke of half-time. And Jaisen Clifford netted the winning goal right at the death.
On the other hand, Letsie Koapeng’s goal gave newcomers Orbit College their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Siwelele FC at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto.
