An unfortunate incident which led to Owethu Rula sustaining a fractured ankle has presented Okuhle ‘Lady Dynamite’ Mthi with an opportunity to fight against Malawian boxer Mphatso Metaudzu next week.
And Mthi will trade leather with Metaudzu in an eight rounds bout at the George Botha Community Centre in KwaNoxolo, Gqeberha, on Saturday, 23 August.
“I was approached by the manager of Owethu Rula, Caiphus Ntante, checking whether Okuhle Mthi can be able to replace Rula or not. We agreed and took the fight,” Mthi’s manager Andile Mshumpela said.
Rated fourth in the South African female junior-flyweight division, Mthi is still smarting from a points loss to Sibabalwe Gwebityala. The fight took place at the Scenery Park Hall in East London four months ago.
Meanwhile, this is going to be Mthatha-born Mthi’s first fight in Gqeberha since she defeated the late Thapelo Bokwe at the Wells Estate Multipurpose Hall in October 2023.
