Lonwabo Witbooi has taken the fight to Siseko Teyisi and is calling the South African junior-flyweight champion to vacate the national title if he doesn’t want to defend against his boxer Athenkosi Thongwana in his next fight.

Witbooi made this clear when he was speaking to Teyisi’s manager Bongani Bozo following Thongwana’s challenge, which the SA champion has reportedly accepted.

Now Witbooi wants Teyisi to forget about his proposed fight against Filipino boxer Elmar Zamora, which is slated for the Orient Theatre in East London on Sunday, 28 September, and defend his SA title.

“The same thing happened to Sinethema Blom and they now want to do it again to Thongwana. I made it clear to Bongani that they have two choices, defend against Thongwana or vacate the title,” Witbooi said.

Witbooi added: “I’m not going to allow Thongwana’s rights to be violated simply because they want to push Teyisi ahead. Teyisi must fulfil his mandatory obligation and defend against Thongwana. It’s simply as that.”
