Bafana Bafana are still in the driving seat in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers following a 1-1 draw with Nigeria at the Free State Stadium in Mangaung on Tuesday evening.
Bafana took the lead in the 25th minute after Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong scored a spectacular own-goal as he was trying to clear Mohau Nkota’s cross.
Fulham’s Calvin Chinedu Bassey equalised for the Super Eagles after Bafana defenders were caught napping. The referee didn’t see that the ball had hit Bassey’s arm before he levelled matters two minutes before the half-time break.
Bafana are in first place with 17 points after five wins, two draws and a loss. On the other hand, the Nigerians are second on 11 points following two wins, five draws and a defeat.
