Despite the fact that his boxer only has three professional fights, boxing manager Thembelani ‘Shakes’ Hlombe does not believe that next month’s fight between his charge Sanele Sogcwayi and former South African champion Sabelo Ngebiyane is a mismatch.

Sogcwayi, who made his professional debut in March this year, faces the experienced Ngebiyane at the Cabo Beach Club, V and A Waterfront, Cape Town, on Saturday, 25 October.

Mdantsane-born Sogcwayi has three wins with two knockouts compared to the former SA junior-bantamweight titlist, who has 15 victories (11 stoppages), 11 defeats and three draws.

“We are going back to Cape Town to face Ngebiyane. It’s gonna be a tough fight, that we know. However, we don’t believe that this fight is a mismatch even though Ngebiyane is more experienced than our boxer. We are ready for this fight as our boxer has been in camp for some time now,” Hlombe remarked.

Sogcwayi stopped Eric Zwane at the same Cape Town venue while Komani-born Ngebiyane lost to former SA junior-featherweight champion, Ayabonga Sonjica, in Johannesburg last month.

Meanwhile, former World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) featherweight champion Simphiwe’V12′ Vetyeka will be in Sogcwayi’s corner in the absence of Ncedo Cecane.

The former SA flyweight champion will miss Sogcwayi’s fight as he will man Lubabalo Kweyi’s corner when he challenges for the Eastern Cape junior-lightweight title against Bandile Daniels in Gqeberha on the same weekend. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
