Jabulani Makhense is fearless even though he’s going to face former world champion and top rated boxer Eimantas Stanionis away in Lithuania.
Malamulele-born Makhense, who left South Africa for Lithuania on Sunday, faces Stanionis at the Zalgiris Arena in Kaunas this coming Saturday.
“I’m doing very well. The camp has been brilliant. I’m looking forward to the fight. We are definitely going for a win,” Makhense said.
Makhense, who is trained by former World Boxing Union (WBU) and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) cruiserweight champion, added: “I appreciate everyone who helped me prepare for this fight during the camp. I also appreciate all those who helped me financially including my team and sparring partners.”
The 32-year-old Makhense will be looking at improving his record when he faces Stanionis. He has won 16 fights with eight of those victories being knockouts and two defeats.
Meanwhile, the 31-year-old Stanionis will be fighting for the first time in Lithuania since he made his professional debut in April 2017.
And this is going to be his second fight this year having lost to Jaron Ennis during an International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight title bout at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, United States of America (USA) five months ago.
The 2015 European Championships gold medallist is rated number eight by the World Boxing Council (WBC) and is second in the World Boxing Association (WBA) ratings.
Born in Kaunas, Stanionis has a professional record of 15 wins with nine stoppages and a single defeat. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
