A decision on the return of the South African Boxing Awards is set to be taken when the board of Boxing South Africa (BSA) meets late next month.
The news of the pending return of the awards was revealed to Ink Sport by BSA chief executive officer Tsholofelo Lejaka.
“It’s something we are still committed to. The board meeting of end-October will issue more details on the subject, but the awards are surely still part of the annual plans for the 2025/2026 financial year,” Lejaka said.
With the last ceremony held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban, the 2023 boxing awards were riddled with controversy.
Some BSA licensees whose nominations came via the backdoor ended up walking away with awards from different categories much to the shock of many boxing followers and those who attended the ceremony. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
