The camp of Charlton ‘Baby Pain’ Malajika fully understands the importance of winning his next fight, which is against Filipino boxer Froilan Saludar this coming Saturday.

Victory over Saludar will put Malajika in good stead in as far as challenging current World Boxing Council (WBC) International bantamweight champion David Mwale in Zambia on Saturday, 27 December.

Malajika is on a roll having won his last eight fights following a loss to Zimbabwean boxer and now his stablemate Ndabezinhle Phiri on debut in May 2023.

He capped his fine form by capturing the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Youth bantamweight title following a unanimous points victory over Filipino boxer RV Deniega early in July.

“We are coming up against a very experienced opponent. But Charlton wants to entertain the people and give out a very good performance,” Malajika’s trainer Manny Fernandes said.

“This is a very important fight to us, especially if you consider that we also have a WBC fight lined up. Charlton is focused and wants to win on Saturday.”

Meanwhile, Bryan Thysse will face off against Michael Head as they fight for the vacant South African light-heavyweight crown with Kaya Mlata facing Ardy Katompa from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in a World Boxing Council (WBC) Youth junior-featherweight title contest.

On the other hand, up and coming heavyweight boxer Juan Alberts clashes with Namibian opponent Kareb Shitana in an eight rounds bout.

Jose Kadima from the DRC fights against Malawian Limbani Lano and Jarred Hensberg faces Lawrence Chiyangwa from Zimbabwe. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
