After leaving the South African junior-bantamweight title on the scales four months ago, Lwando Mgabi is now eager to reclaim the same crown.
Duncan Village-born Mgabi, who is based in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, was dropped to third spot after failing to make the required weight before he stopped Sechaba Zuma in the fifth round in Estcourt, KwaZulu-Natal, in June.
Now Mgabi has challenged newly-crowned SA junior-bantamweight champion Moyisi Booi, who won the title after he stopped Ntethelelo Magcaba in the eighth round at the Orient Theatre in East London last Sunday.
“We submitted the challenge form on Wednesday and it has been acknowledged by Boxing South Africa,” Mgabi’s manager Mlandeli Tengimfene revealed.
Mgabi, who has a professional record of nine wins with four knockouts, won his last two fights by stoppages against Zuma and Ayanda Gangqa in June and August respectively. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
