Bryan Thysse became a third member of his family to win a South African title after he stopped Michael Head at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday evening. 

Thysse won the vacant SA light-heavyweight title after fight referee Riaan Janse van Rensburg stopped the proceedings in 26 seconds into the ninth round. The stoppage followed after a flurry of blows from Thysse landed on Head.

Thysse’s brother, Brandon, is the current SA junior-middleweight champion while his late father, Andre, was a national super-middleweight title holder.

Meanwhile, Kaya Mlata came back from a first round knock down to defeat Ardy Katompa from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in a vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Youth junior-featherweight title.

The KwaBhaca-born Mlata emerged victorious via a split decision with Thando Xamlashe and Duduzile Dlamini having him winning by 76-75 on their scorecards while Dawn Bensch gave the fight to Katompa with 77-73 on her scorecard. 

In another fight, Charlton Malajika continued with his impressice run as he stopped Filipino boxer Froilan Saludar in the fourth round
