With Landile ‘Man Down’ Ngxeke due to fight for the world title against Mexican boxer Jose Salas Reyes, the complaint against NO DOUBT Management’s Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan, which was lodged by Xaba Promotions boss Ayanda Matiti and his sister Sibongile Matiti from Zbashy Promotions, hinges on the money the Matiti siblings believe they would earn from the Sada-born fighter’s purse.
Ngxeke, who faces Salas Reyes in a vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight title contest, left the Eastern Cape for Gauteng and teamed up with Nathan last week.
And peace has never prevailed in Boxing circles since the reigning South African bantamweight champion joined Nathan.
And the Matitis, in their letter to the board of Boxing South Africa (BSA) through Akhona Mafani from Mafani and Company Incorporated, stated that a world title fight involving Ngxeke would earn them 35 percent of the boxer’s purse.
“Mr Ngxeke’s eligibility to contest for the IBF world title (either in Mexico or United States of America) comes with an opportunity to earn at the highest earning platform in boxing, currently. Our clients’ previous contract with Mr Ngxeke was such that our client(s) would be entitled to a fee of 35% of the fee offered to Mr Ngxeke,” the letter said.
The letter further stated: “Though what the actual fee Mr Ngxeke would be fighting for and what our client(s) would be entitled to is not readily available, this could be easily determined should the need arise.”
In the letter objecting to the manager/boxer contract between Nathan and Ngxeke, the Matitis listed 11 fights that the former SA junior-bantamweight titlist fought under them.
And the fact that Ayanda Matiti attended conventions of world bodies is listed as one of the reasons they are fighting tooth and nail to ensure that Ngxeke’s contract with Nathan is declared null and void.
The letter said: “Not only have our client invested time and financial resources in Mr Ngxeke’s career progression as depicted above, and other bouts not included therein, but in travelling abroad to conventions for the ensuring and the safeguarding of Mr Ngxeke’s rights and interested regarding international ratings as a boxer.” – Monwabisi Jimlongo
