World title hopeful Landile ‘Man Down’ Ngxeke has adopted a positive approach despite the brouhaha regarding his move from East London to Johannesburg, where he’s now based.
After plans to have the boxer-manager contract between him and Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan from NO DOUBT Management failed, the South African bantamweight champion continues with his training regime as if nothing has happened.
The board of Boxing South Africa (BSA) on Tuesday confirmed the validity of the boxer-manager contract between Ngxeke and Nathan after it was challenged by Xaba Promotions boss Ayanda Matiti and his sister Sibongile Matiti from Zbashy Promotions and Events last week.
The Matiti siblings, through their lawyer Akhona Mafani from Mafani and Company Incorporated, wrote to BSA board chairperson Ayanda Zamantungwa Khumalo objecting to the contract and calling for it to be declared null and void.
In its ruling, the board based its decision on the fact that none of the Matitis have a contract with Ngxeke. The boxer’s contract with Zbashy Promotions entered into in June 2022 expired in June 2024.
“We are working very hard, there’s nothing to complain about. It’s still too early even though I can say it’s so far, so good,” Ngxeke, who’s the (IBF) International and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Intercontinental bantamweight champion, said.
Ngxeke is hard at work preparing for the vacant IBF bantamweight title contest against Mexican opponent Jose Salas Reyes. Sada-born Ngxeke is rated fourth by the IBF while Reyes is third.
Ngxeke also enjoys being rated seventh by the World Boxing Council (WBC) and is number three in the WBO ratings. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
