It was goals and more goals as Stellenbosch FC ended their eight-match winless streak, defeating Lamontville Golden Arrows 4-3 in a Betway Premiership match at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Wednesday evening.
Stellies took the lead with Langelihle Phili’s goal in the 14th minute and Siyanda Ndlovu equalised two minutes before the half-time break.
New Zealander Andre de Jong restored Stellies’ lead four minutes into the second half. Five minutes later, Junior Sede Dion levelled matters for Abafana Bes’thende.
De Jong restored Stellies’ lead for the second time when he scored in the 61st minute. As it has always been the case throughout the match, Arrows equalised through Isaac Cisse in the 73rd minute.
Muzomuhle Khanyi scored in the 76th minute to give the Cape Winelands side a much deserve a victory. This was Khanyi’s first goal for Stellies.
Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates beat Polokwane City 1-0 through Tshepang Moremi’s goal at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto.
Elsewhere, Kaizer Chiefs’ winless run continued as they were held to a goalless draw by Siwelele FC at the at FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg.
