Saturday’s win by former world champion Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga accomplished a very important mission in ensuring that he claws his way back into the International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight ratings.
Nontshinga was dropped from the IBF ratings after being inactive for a year. And Saturday’s second round stoppage win over Tanzanian boxer Sunday Kiwale will send him back into the top 15 ratings.
“One thing for sure, I know my business. Sivenathi will qualify and occupy a lofty rating now that he has won his fight. The victory was a nice confidence booster,” Nontshinga’s trainer Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan said.
This was the first time Nontshinga fought since he suffered a ninth round stoppage loss to Japanese boxer Masamichi Yabuki in an IBF junior-flyweight title fight in October last year.
As a result of his win over the Tanzanian, the 26-year-old Nontshinga improved his record to 14 victories with 11 knockouts and two losses while Kiwale dropped to 20 wins, 13 stoppages, 17 defeats and five draws. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
