Mamelodi Sundowns started their CAF Champions League group stages journey with a 3-1 win over St Eloi Lupopo from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Saturday afternoon.
The Brazilians shot to the lead through Nuno Santos after he was fed by his Portuguese compatriot Miguel Reisinho in the fourth minute.
Just as the Tshwane giants thought they would take a 1-0 lead at half-time, the Congolese equalised when Ramos Kashala Wanet beat Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams at near post a minute from the break following a Lumande Twite pass.
Sundowns started the second half with more purpose and it was then no wonder that Marcelo Allende restored their lead on the hour mark from a Santos assist. Santos completed his brace in the 77th minute after Arthur Sales had crossed to him to head home.
