Even though successfully defended his South African junior-flyweight title after he stopped Athenkosi Thongwana, champion Siseko Teyisi would admit that there were moments where he struggled during the fight held at the Orient Theatre in East London on Friday evening.

Teyisi started the fight very well, using his jab effectively. Things changed when Thongwana closed the range and started giving Teyisi problems.

However, the fight changed once again as Teyisi began to dominate, especially in the 10th round where he caught Thongwana with big punches.

The lanky Teyisi continued to use his jab, which troubled Thongwana until he stopped him in the 12th round. Teyisi decked Thongwana, who was then counted out by fight referee Allen Matakane.

Meanwhile, Asanda Gingqi successfully defended his SA junior-lightweight title after he defeated Lubabalo Kweyi via a unanimous points decision.

Judge Sithembele Tom had Gingqi winning by 116-111, Thandi Ngodwana 118-109 and Ben Ncapai 117-110.
