After taking a decision to hang up his gloves following his loss to Colombian boxer Jhon Elin Orobio Siniesta in Montreal, Canada, in November, Xolisani ‘Nomeva’ Ndongeni will dance one last time next month.

The KwaBhaca-born Ndongeni will don his gloves for the very last time when he bids the fistic sport farewell in a fight against a yet-to-be confirmed opponent at the Orient Theatre in East London on Saturday, 28 February.

And confirming Ndongeni’s upcoming fight, Ground Up Promotions boss Loyiso Magqaza said: “We sponsored Nomeva before we got into promotion. Now we want him to have a farewell fight and we are working around that. We are gonna have a big event on the 28th of February. And we need to do something out of the ordinary.”

It will make perfect sense for Ndongeni, a former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) and South African lightweight champion, to have his last bout in front of East London fight fans having made his professional debut with a win over Luyanda Vumazonke at the Mdantsane Indoor Sports Centre in May 2010.

He won a number of titles including the SA, World Boxing Federation (WBF) International junior-lightweight, IBO International lightweight and African Boxing Union (ABU) junior-welterweight crowns. Ndongeni has a professional record of 33 victories with 19 knockouts and eight defeats. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
