Things are looking good for national champion Sharadene Fortuin as she’s set to fight for the second time in less than four months.

After she retained her South African female bantamweight title following a unanimous decision win over Thema Zuma at the SN Boxing Gym in Diep River, Cape Town, last month, Fortuin is going to make a ring return at the Orient Theatre in East London on Saturday, 28 February.

“Sharadene is under our promotion now. We want her to be active and defend her title. She will definitely fight in next month’s tournament,” Ground Up Promotions boss Loyiso Magqaza revealed.

Seymour-born Fortuin hadn’t fought since September 2023 before she made a third successful defence of her national crown when she outpointed Zuma. It was also the second time that Fortuin defeated Zuma as she did the same when they fought for the then vacant International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Intercontinental bantamweight title in December 2018. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
