For some time reigning South African female bantamweight champion Sharadene Fortuin struggled to get fights something which was exacerbated by her not having a promoter.
But things are going to change now as Fortuin has found a new promotional home by joining Loyiso Magqaza’s Ground Up Sports Promotions.
“I can confirm that Sharadene has been signed by Ground Up Sports Promotions. I’m very happy about this. I’m now assured that Sharadene’s career will take a direction and there will be people behind her,” Witbooi remarked.
“We are grateful to Mr Loyiso Magqaza for signing Sharadene something which is rare for female boxers to be signed by established promotions. It’s very humbling and I know that Sharadene won’t disappoint.”
Born in Seymour, Raymond Mhlaba Municipality, Fortuin made a statement when she successfully defended her SA female bantamweight title with a points win over Thema Zuma in Cape Town last month something which forced the Ground Up Promotions bosses to take note of her.
“They were very impressed with her performance in Cape Town and I’m glad that they have kept their promise to promote Sharadene. I’m glad that we are on the same page in mapping the way for Sharadene’s career,” Witbooi said. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
