With Bongani Fule coming to fight against him in Estcourt in two months’ time, South African featherweight champion Lindelani Sibisi has said that the Makhanda boxer is going there to pick up his first career loss.
Sibisi will be making the first defence of his SA title when he faces the Eastern Cape champion on Saturday, 28 March. Dundee-born Sibisi became the national champion after he stopped Zolisa Batyi in the 10th round at the Orient Theatre, East London, in May last year.
“Fule is one of the top contenders in the featherweight division. He’s hungry and he works very hard. He wants to prove himself against me. The fact that he’s coming to the champion’s backyard proves that he’s coming to fight. And for that reason, he’s got my respect,” Sibisi remarked.
Sibisi will go to the fight carrying a record of 10 wins with eight stoppages and two defeats. On the other hand, Fule is unbeaten, having won all his eight fights with half of those victories coming from knockouts.
“This is going to be a great fight. It’s gonna be war. Hopefully, Fule is gonna bring his A game. I’m not taking this fight lightly. He’s got a perfect record which I’m going to break. A loss is the only thing he’s going to take here,” Sibisi said.
Sibisi last fought when he defeated Indian boxer Keisham Luckysun Singh in an IBF International featherweight title contest in October while Fule registered a split decision win over former SA champion Jeff Magagane in November. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
