After only four fights under Mzamo ‘Chief’ Njekanye’s tutelage, Nhlanhla ‘Mount Kilimanjaro’ Tyirha has turned his back on KuGompo City to join SN Boxing Gym in Diep River, Cape Town.
It looked like Tyirha and Njekanye were a match made in heaven until news filtered through confirming that the reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) Intercontinental minimumweight champion had found a new home.
Roelien Magqaza, who manages the former South African junior-flyweight titlist, promised to call later when Ink Sport contacted her regarding Tyirha’s latest move.
Promoted by Loyiso Magqaza’s Ground Up Sports Promotions, Tyirha won the IBF Intercontinental title after he outpointed Filipino boxer Arnel Lofranco at the SN Boxing Gym in December last year. Currently, Mdantsane-born Tyirha is 10th in the latest World Boxing Council (WBC) ratings and is rated ninth by the IBF.
