With only one professional fight under his belt, the bright lights of Johannesburg have beckoned and Lubabalo ‘The General’ Lusizi has responded by leaving the comfort of his Zwide, Gqeberha, home to join Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan’s NO DOUBT Management.
And Lusizi, who announced his arrival in the professional ranks with a third round stoppage win over Yamkela Msila in October last year, will be trained by Shannon Strydom now that he has moved to South Africa’s richest city.
“It took me two years to make this decision. It was very difficult as I love my mom, but she has given me her blessings to follow my dreams and now I am here,” the 24-year-old Lusizi said.
Lusizi was a great ambassador in the amateur ranks, becoming a four-time Eastern Cape and South African champion. He returned home from the 2022 African Zone and 2023 All Africa Games with gold medals and was a silver medallist at the 2024 All Africa Games.
Speaking to Nathan about the Gqeberha-born southpaw three weeks ago, Strydom said: “Col, this kid has reached out to us, and I think he is hot and talented.”
And after signing Lusizi, Nathan said: “I remember reading about this kid on Ink Sport when he turned professional and seeing his amateur pedigree. So when Shan mentioned his name to me, I already had an understanding that he could be something special.”
