It’s fight on as South African boxer Siphamandla ‘Toytoy’ Baleni made the weight easily during Friday’s official weigh-in held at the BQ Mall Atrium in Tagbilaran City, Philippines, ahead of his clash against Filipino opponent Regie ‘The Filipino Phenom’ Suganob.
Mthatha-born Baleni, a former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) minimumweight title contender, tipped the scales at 49,06 kilograms while his adversary weighed 49,50kg. Baleni and Suganob will face each other inside the ring in a 10 rounds bout at the Bohol Cultural Centre in Tagbilaran City on Saturday.
The former South African minimumweight and junior-flyweight champion is the second boxer from South Africa to trade leather with Suganob. The Filipino lost to Sivenathi Nontshinga in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight title fight at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in KuGompo City early in July 2023.
Suganob enjoys being rated sixth by the World Boxing Council (WBC), fifth in the IBF ratings and is sitting in third position in the World Boxing Organisation (WBO).
