Avuyile Mphikwa lived up to his trainer Mapetla Mzamo’s predictions as he defeated Siphenathi Nobanda at the Titi Jonas Community Hall in Port Alfred on Saturday evening.
As a result of the win, Mphikwa became the new Eastern Cape featherweight champion as he registered a sixth round technical knockout victory over Amalinda’s Nobanda.
Duncan Village-born Mphikwa has now extended his record to three stoppages in as many fights while Nobanda dropped to six wins with one knockout and three defeats.
In the main supporting bout, unbeaten Sivenathi July from KwaNojoli continued with his winning streak as he outpointed Makhanda-born Phumlani Maloni in the strawweight division. July has now won all his four fights with two of those wins being knockouts.
Sivenathi Adonisi earned a points win over Khayalethu Prince with Thozama Tokota stopping Cwenga Tolana in the second round while Abalulekile Magoqoza registered a first round technical knockout victory over Siphosethu Qakamfana.
On the other hand, Siphesihle Mpolweni beat Masixole Tyabazayo by a split decision and Malibongwe Balakisi defeated Ayabulela Mngxuma on points.
