A fight, which was due to take place last December, but got postponed after one of the boxers picked up an injury while preparing for it, is finally going ahead in South Africa.

Charlton ‘Baby Pain’ Malajika’s postponed fight against unbeaten World Boxing Council (WBC) International bantamweight champion David Mwale from Zambia is now pencilled for the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday, 16 May. This bout is going to be on the undercard of Siyakholwa Kuse’s challenge to WBC minimumweight champion Melvin ‘El Gringo’ Jerusalem.

An injury picked up by Malajika at training last year forced the postponement of the fight, which was scheduled for Saturday, 27 December in Zambia. Malajika, who has nine wins with four knockouts and a loss, tore ligaments in his knee while he was preparing to face off against the Zambian.

And that was going to be the fourth time Malajika, who is the younger brother to current International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-bantamweight champion Ricardo Malajika, fought last year. The IBO International bantamweight titlist registered wins over Gcina Makhoba from KwaZulu-Natal as well as Filipino boxers RV Deniega and Froilan Saludar.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old Mwale, a southpaw from the capital Lusaka, has won all his 12 fights with half of those victories coming from stoppages.
