With South African female boxer Simamkele Tutsheni chasing history in far away Poland, the chairperson of the Women in Boxing Committee Rina Subotzky has wished her good luck ahead of Sunday evening’s world title fight against Pole Monika Laura Grzyb.

Tutsheni clashes with Grzyb in an International Boxing Organisation (IBO) female junior-featherweight title contest at Hala Widowiskowo-Sportowa, Aleja Jana Pawła II 6, Jastrzębie-Zdrój.

“I just wanna wish you the best of luck in your upcoming bout in Poland. I want you to know that the Women in Boxing Committee and the South African boxing community is behind you. We are so proud of you. We can’t wait to welcome you as a champion, good luck,” Subotzksy said.

Originally from Ngqeleni in the Eastern Cape and now based in Langa, Cape Town, Tutsheni will not only be chasing glory in Poland, she will also be out to make history by becoming the first South African female boxer to win a world title outside the country.

Nozipho Bell from Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, tried to win a world title outside South Africa on two occasions. Unfortunately, she lost by an eighth round stoppage to Terri Harper in an IBO female junior-lightweight title fight in Rotherham, England, in July 2019.

Nine months earlier, Bell lost to Polish boxer Ewa Brodnicka in a World Boxing Organisation (WBO) female junior-lightweight title contest in Lublin, Poland.

And another boxer from Gqeberha, Razell Mohamed was stopped in the fourth round by New Zealander Lani Daniels in New Zealand when they fought for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) female heavyweight title in August 2023.
