Despite his boxer not being able to train with his trainer Khangelani Jack for more than two weeks, Siseko Teyisi’s manager Bongani Bozo has revealed that the boxer’s preparations for his May fight against Filipino opponent Neel ‘No Fear’ Jacamos are on track.
Teyisi will fight for the first time under his new promotional home, Ground Up Sports Promotions, when he squares up against Jacamos in a World Boxing Council (WBC) Youth junior-flyweight title contest on Saturday, 23 May. Before the tournament postponement, the two boxers were due to meet at the Jan Smuts Stadium in KuGompo City this coming Saturday.
“We communicated with Jack almost all the time when he was out of the country. He has an assistant trainer, who works with him. The assistant trainer was busy with training sessions. Actually, Siseko was already fit when Jack left for the Philippines. We were going to be ready even if the fight was going to be held this coming weekend,” Bozo said.
Before returning to South Africa on Thursday last week, Jack and his boxer Siphamandla Baleni were stranded in Asia since the boxer’s eighth round stoppage loss to Filipino opponent Regie Suganob in the Philippines late last month.
They got stranded after the closure of airspace in most Asian countries following the United States of America (USA) and Israel’s attacks on Iran something which messed up Jack and Baleni’s travelling arrangements.
Mdantsane-born Teyisi, who has won all his nine fights with seven of those victories coming from knockouts, last fought when he stopped Athenkosi Thongwana in a South African junior-flyweight title defence at the Orient Theatre in KuGompo City in December.
On the other hand, Jacamos, a General Santos City resident in the Philippines, has won all his seven fights and has one knockout. He defeated his compatriot Kurt John Pabular last August. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
