As part of their preparations for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament taking place in July and August, Banyana Banyana have secured two international friendly matches against Algeria.
According to the South African Football Association (SAFA), the two matches against the North Africans are going to be played in Durban, KwaZulu Natal, on Tuesday 14 and Friday 17 April.
SAFA also announced that the venue for the two matches is yet to be confirmed. The announcement came a day after SAFA confirmed two international matches against Japan in June.
“Our last friendly was against North African team Morocco and Algeria is similar, they bring a lot of physicality, but a lot different in that they are very good on the counter. They will challenge us in different ways and leading up to WAFCON we need as many difference challenges as we can so that we are able to adapt during the tournament,” Banyana coach Desire Ellis said.
For the WAFCON tournament, Banyana are in Group B together with Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Tanzania while the Algerians are in Group A with Morocco, Senegal and Kenya.
