Monica Mkandla is on the hunt for her ninth victory as she can’t wait to step into the ring and exchange blows with former South African champion Thema Zuma.
Having won all her eight fights, Mkandla has a date with Zuma, an erstwhile SA female junior-bantamweight titlist, at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, this Saturday.
“Me and my team have prepared well for this fight. We are sure that we are gonna win. Our game plan is good,” Nkandla, who is trained by Vusi Mtolo, said.
Zimbabwe-born Mkandla goes to the fight on the back of a points win over former SA and World Boxing Federation (WBF) female junior-featherweight champion Kabisile Tshabalala at the Silver Lakes Farm Hotel in Pretoria last November.
Zuma, meanwhile, lost her last two fights to Nonkululeko Mncube in Mooi River earlier this month and Sharadene Fortuin during an SA female bantamweight title fight in Diep River, Cape Town, in December last year. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
