Marumo Gallants announced on Tuesday afternoon that they had appointed Moroccan-born mentor Jamil Benouahi as their new coach.

Benouahi replaced Alexander Lafitte, who was recently suspended by the club. The Moroccan has coached USM Alger in Algeria, Burkinabe side Rahimo and Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah and worked for AS FAR as an assistant in Morocco.

“The club is confident that Benouahi’s expertise, leadership and fresh perspective will contribute positively to the team’s performance as Marumo Gallants continues its campaign for the remainder of the season,” a Gallants statement said.

“Marumo Gallants remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, governance and performance both on and off the field, as the team continues its preparations for the remainder of the season.”

The 47-year-old Benouahi’s first match in charge of Gallants will be away to struggling Magesi FC in Seshego, Polokwane, on Tuesday, 7 April.
