After accepting a step aside fee from Japanese boxing promoter Akihiko Honda of Teiken Promotions so that Kenshiro ‘The Amazing’ Teraji from Japan could fight against Jonathan Gonzalez, now Hekkie ‘Hexecutioner’ Budler finally gets an opportunity to clash against the Japanese.
Teraji is going to put his World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Association (WBA) junior-flyweight titles on the line when he faces Budler in Tokyo, Japan, on Monday, 18 September.
Teraji’s fight against Gonzalez never took place as the Puerto Rican fell ill with pneumonia and the Japanese then defended against American boxer Anthony Olascuaga, who was a late replacement.
Apart from the prospects of winning the WBC belt, this fight offers Budler a chance to reclaim the WBA title he lost to Japanese boxer Hiroto Kyoguchi in Macao in December 2018. The 35-year-old Budler remains South Africa’s most successful boxer.
