Fight organisers are beginning to feel the pinch as a result of the absence of boxing activities following the court challenge brought by the National Professional Boxing Promoters Association (NPBPA) against Minister of Sport, Zizi Kodwa, over his appointment of the new board of Boxing South Africa (BSA).
And Sandile Vilakazi, the chairperson of the KwaZulu-Natal Boxing Promoters Association, believes that the impasse between the NPBPA and Kodwa can be solved without involving the courts.
“I’m very angry with what is happening at the moment. We can’t even stage boxing tournaments because of the court case,” Vilakazi, who trades under the banner of Syathaba Boxing Promotions, said.
“This is not right. This matter needs to be solved outside the court. The NPBPA and the Minister need to find each other, sit down together and solve this. Things cannot go on like this, no.”
KwaZulu-Natal promoters stand to lose financially as the provincial government had put aside money to fund boxing tournaments in the province. Failure to stage boxing tournaments will result in the promoters forfeiting the money as it will be returned to the provincial government.
