Fired Chippa United technical director Morgan Mammila has revealed that Chilli Boys chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi played no role in his sacking by the Eastern Cape club.
Speaking on Metrofm on Wednesday evening, Mammila seemed to be defending Mpengesi, who is known for firing coaches at his club.
“I’m the only coach who has started the season and ended it. I can confirm that my friend (Mpengesi) and I are no longer working together. It’s not the chairman who fired me,” Mammila told Metrofm.
“I think he knows who fired me and him we chat, but he didn’t deliver the news. The news was delivered through their legal team. There are other reasons. I wish I knew the other reasons. I’m one person who doesn’t ask what the reasons are. We had a chat a week ago. Frankly, and to be honest, it’s not the chairman who fired me. The people who run the team fired me.”
Mammila has had at least three stints – as chief executive officer, coach and technical director – at the Gqeberha-based Premiership club.
The former Baroka FC CEO was replaced by co-coaches Thabo September and Kwanele Kopo after he failed to bring results to the club.
