Newly-crowned African Boxing Union (ABU) lightweight champion Lusanda Komanisi is aiming to face former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) lightweight king Emmanuel Tagoe and he is prepared to go fight him in Ghana.

Komanisi is in buoyant mood after he stopped Sivenathi Qampi in the fifth round of their ABU lightweight title fight at the Methodist Church Multipurpose Centre in Wilsonia, East London, on Saturday.

‘‘The fight went as I expected it. I knew that Qampi was going to lift his performance, but he was no match for me,’’ said Komanisi.

The former IBO featherweight champion revealed after the fight that his promoter Happy Tewo has promised him a duel with Tagoe and is ready to travel to Ghana to face the 31-year-old Ghanaian.

‘‘My promoter Happy Tewo has told me that the win has put me in the top 15 in the WBC ratings,’’ said Komanisi.

‘‘He asked me what I wanted and I told him that I want to fight for a world title. He assured me that that is going to happen. But I have to face Tagoe first. He said the fight is possible because he is good friends with Tagoe’s handlers.’’

The 31-year-old boxer from Mdantsane has added that he is finished fighting with South African boxers.

‘‘I want to fight for a world title because I’m not getting any younger. I fought a number of times here in South Africa and I never
grew financially. I’m getting old and need to make money now,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, Thulani Mbenge reclaimed the SA welterweight title when he stopped Mziwoxolo Ndwayana in the fourth round at the Kagiso Memorial Centre in Kagiso, Krugersdorp, on Friday night.

Interestingly, East London-born Mbenge beat Ndwayana from Makhanda on points to win the same title in 2017.
