One of the finest footballers to come out of South Africa, legendary Kaizer Chiefs captain Johannes ‘Ryder’ Mofokeng has passed away.
He was 70.
The sad news of White City-born Mofokeng’s death was announced by Amakhosi. Mofokeng made 332 appearances for Chiefs between 1975 and 1985.
‘‘It is with great regret to announce the passing of our legend and longest serving captain Johannes ‘Ryder’ Mofokeng. The chairman has on behalf of the club expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and friends,’’ said a statement from Chiefs.
Mofokeng played a very important role at Chiefs leading the team to many trophies while playing alongside the likes of Jan ‘Malombo’ Lechaba, the late Patrick ‘Ace’ Ntsoelengoe, Joseph ‘Banks’ Setlhodi and Nelson ‘Teenage’ Dladla just to name a few.
