Passing off the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-lightweight challenge to Scenery Park boxer Khanyile Bulana seems to be one of the reasons, which prompted Azinga ‘Golden Boy’ Fuzile to leave Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan.
The former South African featherweight champion rejoined his former trainer Mzamo ‘Chief’ Njekanye earlier this week.
Initially, handlers of IBO junior-lightweight champion Michael Magnesi identified Fuzile for the Italian’s voluntary defence in Rome, Italy, on Saturday, 17 April. However, that offer was given to Bulana as Nathan was looking at Fuzile fighting in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-lightweight elimination bout.
That apparently didn’t go down well with Fuzile as he “wanted” to challenge Magnesi.
“He seemed disgruntled about it,” Nathan, chief trainer Hot Box Gym, said referring to how Fuzile reacted after learning that Bulana was going to fight for a world title.
“The situation is over now. He’s back with Chief now. I’m not upset about him going back to Chief. Fighters come and go, but there has to be consequences and accountability. Consequences is that he signed an agreement and the accountability is that he needs to own up.”
Nathan has also revealed that he covered Fuzile’s accommodation costs and paid him a monthly stipend while he was under his wings.
“Yes, I was paying for his accommodation and stipend. I’m not gonna mention figures. I don’t want to discuss this. I would never charge a fighter over and above 25 percent. He owes me for the contract we signed. I make money through getting fights for my fighters,” Nathan said.
Numerous efforts to reach Fuzile drew a blank as his phone rang unanswered for the better part of the day.
