Losing to a GladAfrica Championship side is an embarrassment for a big team like Kaizer Chiefs thus Sunday’s result left Amakhosi coach Gavin Hunt scratching his head.
Chiefs were dumped out of the Nedbank Cup by Richards Bay FC at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec on Sunday.
Thabani Dube and Siyabonga Vilane scored for the Natal Rich Boyz with Chiefs’ goal coming from Leonardo Castro.
“We conceded at the death, which is disappointing. I’m very disappointed, actually I’m embarrassed,” Hunt, who described the loss as his biggest in 27 years, said.
“You know we had enough opportunities to win the game. Obviously, we conceded the goal, it gave them the lifeline. We got back into the game. Even with a player short we still managed to create many, many opportunities around the box, inside the box.”
This was a second successive loss for Amakhosi as they lost 2-1 to arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in a DStv Premiership match more than a week ago.
Chiefs are going to travel to Morocco for a CAF Champions League match against Wydad Casablanca at the Stade Mohammed V on Saturday (21h00).
“You go from one extreme to the other extreme. You go play against Champions League finalists in the past two seasons, you go play against a First Division team. It’s going to be a tough ask. We are going there with a positive mind,” Hunt said.
