Continuous postponements of his clash against American boxer Hank Lundy have forced Xolisani ‘Nomeva’ Ndongeni to take a fight against Byson Gwayani from Malawi.
Ndongeni, 30, is now going to face Lilongwe-based Gwayani in a 10-rounder at the Graceland Casino in Secunda, Mpumalanga, on Saturday, 20 March.
Initially, Ndongeni’s fight against Lundy was slated for Saturday, 13 March, in Florida, United States. It was later postponed to Saturday, 10 April, in Texas.
“They kept postponing the fight. They told us that it had been postponed again. We then decided to take the Gwayani fight while we are waiting for confirmation of the date of the fight in America,” Ndongeni said.
The former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) and World Boxing Federation (WBF) lightweight champion will go to the Gwayani fight following a shock stoppage by Prince Dlomo in October last year.
This is going to be KwaBhaca-born Ndongeni’s first fight since he returned to his former trainer Mzamo ‘Chief’ Njekanye.
Gwayani, who has 11 wins with four stoppages and six losses, has lost three of his last five fights while Ndongeni lost two of his last five bouts.
