Patrice Motsepe is going to be installed as the new president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Rabat, Morocco, on Friday.
The Mamelodi Sundowns president is set to become the first CAF president from Anglophone Africa.
This comes after the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) reduced Ahmad Ahmad’s FIFA ban from five years to two years following his appeal on Monday. Ahmad had hoped that CAS would scrap his ban altogether.
The CAF President, who was fined 50,000 Swiss Francs (about R826678.00) found himself on the wrong side of FIFA laws after he was found guilty of several infractions of the FIFA Code of Ethics. He was banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity at national and international level for five years. He was also fined 200 000 Swiss Francs (about R3306712.00).
Motsepe became the only presidential candidate after Ahmed Yahya from Mauritania, Senegalese Augustin Senghor and Jacques Anouma from Ivory Coast withdrew from the race last week.
