Rulani Mokwena regards Mamelodi Sundowns’ Nedbank Cup second round match against Polokwane City as one of the Brazilians’ big games despite the two clubs playing in different tiers.
The Brazilians meet the Limpopo-based GladAfrica Championship side at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria at 15h00 on Wednesday. Winners of this match are going to be at home against Orlando Pirates in the quarter-finals on 15 April.
“We are playing a very big game. We cannot overemphasise the magnitude of the game against a rejuvenated side that has a new coach,” the Sundowns co-coach said.
“When you look at their last four results, it’s two wins, two draws with the new coach. And already with a profile of players that they kept we gonna work extremely hard to score because their back four has got very good players. We have extremely high demands with goals. Definitely, this is one of the most important games for us this season.”
This game had to be played at this late stage because of Sundowns’ hectic CAF Champions League schedule.
Meanwhile, three Nedbank Cup quarter-final matches are going to be played this coming weekend.
Chippa United face GladAfrica Championship side Richards Bay FC at Mdantsane’s Sisa Dukashe Stadium in East London on Saturday.
Then Cape Town All Stars will welcome Pretoria Callies at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch on Sunday with Black Leopards playing against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila at the Thohoyandou Stadium on the same day.
